FAREWELL Of YAM1: RIP:-(
Pic 1: June 30, 2004. This is the final time a train arrives at TBM headed by the YAM1: Cholan Express from Kumbakonam.
Pic 2: Signals at TBM Yard. A solitary YAM1 lurks in the background, awaiting duties.
Pic 3: Here is the mini-brute up close. Tambaram, Chennai.

Pic 5: June 30, 2004. 813 Kumbakonam Fast Passenger was the last train to depart from Chennai with a YAM1. By Jason Anthony.
Pic 6: Driving position in YAM1 locomotives.
Pic 7: Central control panel.
Pic 8: The speedo and other controls.
Pic 9: Another view of the YAM1 cab.
Pic 10: July 1 2004. Finally… 21916 gets the honour of the being the very last YAM1 to work a regular train – Sethu Express.
Pic 11: Close up of YAM1 21916. Note the WAP4-type eyebrow – a nice touch.
Pic 12: The builders’ plate: “Japanese Group” comprising Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Toshiba.
Pic 13: The cab of YAM1 21916….
Pic 14: Brake shoe and linkage.
Pic 15: The great MG brute indulges us for a photo op. Our surprise visitor was Apurva Bahadur himself! From L to R: YAM1 21916, Assistant Driver, PoochiVenkat, Jason Anthony, Apurva Bahadur, Bharath Moro, Chief Driver, an interested passenger.
Pic 16: And now…the decisive hour is at hand – a big wave of green for the send-off.
Pic 17: A larger picture of the “Tri-Flag" System :-) and the dysfunctional starter nearby.
Pic 18: Departing rake of Sethu Express with the lovely unmistakable twin-tones of the YAM1 clearing the way ahead.
Pic 19: Rest-In-Peace YAM1. More than ten locos were herded into single file outside TBM Shed. Difficult to think of life without them. Though we will miss the unique horns, their melodious twin-tones will echo in our souls forever. July 5, 2004. By Gautam P.

Lovely pics sir. I remember watching these beauties hauling Sethu,RMM Exp,Kamban and what not from my aunt's balcony in MKK during my childhood. BTW, just wanted to know, can public bid for locos and coaches which are due for scrap, give them a good coat of paint, refurbish them and use it like a personal train?
