railfan23 144 blog postsPlease let me know when the Current Booking closes for Train No. 12859 (Gitanjali Express) at Nagpur Jn. station, and if one may book (if such is available) confirmed/reserved seat for the 2S class at the Current Booking counter. I shall be disembarking at Nagpur Jn. (having taken the Train No. 12723 AP Express from Secunderabad) tomorrow, i.e., 25th Feb. at 3.45 pm. And the Gitanjali Express's scheduled departure from Nagpur Jn. is 7.05 pm. So, would this 'time window' be sufficient for me to try to get a confirmed/reserved seating in the 2S class? Please advise.

There is no current booking for travelling in the GEN class. You can buy the ticket anytime from unreserved counters. Just ask for a superfast gen ticket to your destination. You can buy it even 2 mins before since the tickets issued at the unreserved counters are not train specific.
Current booking is applicable only for reserved classes subject to availability.

Current booking pertains to RESERVED tickets only. It has dedicated 'Current booking counters', separate from the regular general ticket counters. For General / Unreserved tickets, you have to go to regular ticket windows.
Railways' intent of providing Current booking is to sell those berths which remained vacant even after clearing all waitlists after chart preparation. So in true sense, current booking is like regular reservation only for all practical purpose. Such tickets shall be valid for that particular train only, and shall have specific Seat / Berth numbers reserved in your name (just like normal reservation)
