Not a bad rail budget for Odisha after all (Source: The Telegraph-27-Feb)
1. While last year, the state had received Rs 1,420.98 crore, the budget allocation this year is Rs 2,514 crore against a demand of Rs 3,200 crore.
2. The total allocation for the East Coast Railway - consisting of Odisha and parts of Seemandhra up to Vizayanagaram -has received a budgetary allocation of Rs 3,112.48 crore.

chief minister Naveen Patnaik grudgingly admitted that the allocation for the state had gone up in the budget. "In the railway budget due allocations have been made for ongoing major projects such as the Khurda-Balangir one, where the state has committed to provide land free of cost and bear 50 per cent of the project cost," said Naveen.
Naveen also said some of the traditionally neglected railway sections such as Sambalpur, Titilagarh, Sambalpur and Talcher have been given due weightage in the budget.
1. While the Talcher-Bimalagarh railway project has received a sanction of Rs 280 crore,
2. Sambalpur-Talcher railway line has received an allocation of Rs 470 crore and the Bansapani-Daitari railway project has got Rs 513 crore.
