I have a doubt, y doesn't MGNREGA scheme work for the construction of Indian Railways?? Or do they actually work ??

They do but rarely. Basically the scheme is to build rural infrastructure of all kinds involving small to medium scale finances. So while building a big hospital in a village may not be included in MNREGA but may be building a small under pass below a railway line, or upgrading a small wayside railway station etc may be taken up. But if you are wondering about bigger projects like RoBs, new lines etc, they are not included as they need huge capital investments.
It does work, But i feel there is a big scam in it. The contractors will use MGNREGA works for railway construction but Gov will pay the workers and also the contractor will take money for workers in the contract.
So basically the contractor will get free labour but he will get money from IR.
