The distance between VASAI ROAD - WR (BSR) AND THIVIM - KR (THIVM) is shown as 534 kms. The ticket booked shows a distance of 700 kms. and is charged for this distance. Is the IRCTC trying to stretch the distance by 166 kms to charge extra from a passenger. Is there a way of stopping this overcharging practice if it is being done.

This is KR. On KR the distance shown is inflated as it is a private corporation.
This is being done legally for nearly the last one decade and a half. Distance on KR is inflated to compensate for the humungous investment in its construction.
Isn't it misguiding the passengers by giving wrong distances on the tickets. The railways should be honest to take the difference by showing it in the breakup of charges. Its profiteering by the Govt. by creating a corporation owned by it and showing it as a private operator.
KR doesn't have its own trains. So only source of income was Ro-Ro freights. The revenue earned from them would be too less to recover the huge construction cost. Hence to increase income kms are inflated. IR isn't cheating,This is known to everyone
KR is Govt of India Enterprise owned by Ministry of railways.
@binimish: The practice is old is in use elsewhere too.
Regarding KR the project was unviable and was very tough to construct so special arrangements has been made to make this happen.
