I'm a bit confused(as usual!)
Trying to see if we can do an out and back to Matheran from MumbaiCST. On Cleartrip it appears we can get out OK but not back the same day prreferably late afternoon/early evening. Looks as though the only train from Neral to Mumbai is at about 10am! Surely that cant be right!
I'd like to reserve seats going out to Neral to connect with Toy Train and vice versa same day.

From CST take Karjath local to Neral. At Neral there is no advance reservation for Toy Train. One have to be in Q and ticket will start issue 45 minutes before train departure on first-come-first basis. If you take early morning local from CSTM to Neral and from Neral to Matheran by Toy train and back to CSTM is possible with limited sight seeing at Matheran the same day.
many ppl do as indicated above...one day trip to matheran is done this way only and therez time for jan...u can easily plan..lots of time
