These are just the reasons given by the railways..They have just introduced passenger specials and not long running express trains. I have seen the maintenance of passenger trains running around Miraj. Also, Kolhapur is one of the most under utilized stations in CR. If they extend it to KOP, the RSA pattern will be affected. Hence, they will not. Baaki sab bakwaas reasons given by IR.

They need to expand KOP station by increasing platforms and pitlines.. In future this route will extend to Konkan Railway.. Just now, RM has given green signal for this route...

Very good plan to join KOP with KR. Last year, passenger earnings from KOP dipped. It will do wonders for the development of this wonderful city.
There was a move to link Belgaum to Karad via Kolhapur (parallel to highway route). If this materialises, then this can act as another parallel line from Pune to Mumbai stretch.
Yes, I also heard about Karad - Belgaon route and one more that is Karad - Chiplun route for connecting to Konkan..
