Yes...we can do much better things. The best example is delhi metro.
My goodness more than 16 lakh people traveling on delhi metro every day...
out standing. We need a guy like sridharan (Luckly he is not politician)
But even Shreedharan can never build/create this kind of infra in this country. The pic also had bullet train in the station. Do you really think you would ever be able to see bullet trains in India in our/your lifetime?
A nice view indeed. Appeared in the newspapers in the year 2008. One thing I'd like to add is, that if in this impression, had the artist shown true Indian Railway rakes, it would have been better.
if not much better, then at least it would have been more realistic.

2.5 years back, during a railway station designing contest, my railway station designing plan also had similar features , but more of them concentrated on the circulation solutions rather than aesthetics.
But for what india needs bullet trains ??? If you build bullet trains they are much costlier than some low class air lines....i am happy in 5 year new 80 air ports going to start in india. I read a news bullet trains in china are running vacant. We are also most cost effected people. Lets hope we will get more double and electrical lines.
I will be so happy if i can travel on full doubled track between Banglore-Mumbai or Mumbai-Chennai or Pune-hyderabad in my life time.
