Whoever said 'It is all about the journey, not the destination' was probably on a train journey to somewhere. Trust us, train journeys offer some of the most breathtakingly scenic rides you'll ever experience, even India. Don't believe us? Here are some of the most scenic train journeys in India that you must add to your bucket list.

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) connects the plains of West Bengal at New Jalpaiguri with the hill station of Darjeeling. On the way, it passes the most breathtaking scenery and climbs to a

The Kashmir Railway (Jammu – Udhampur): One of the most challenging engineering projects in India, the Kashmir Railway ride from Jammu to Udhampur is absolutely beautiful. It has 20 major tunnels and 158 bridges and offers wonderful views of the rivers and valleys and also the beautiful Shivalik Mountain Ranges.

Kalka to Shimla: It is a toy train that travels from Kalka to Shimla, the railway track of which was introduced by the British government in the year 1903.The total distance covered between Kalka to Shimla is 96 kms and the train passes through 102 tunnels and 87 bridges. The toy train passes through hills, valleys and lush forests of oak, rhododendron, deodar and pine. You can't miss it.

Vizag to Arakku: Valleys, mountains and coffee plantations, this route has it all. You have to travel this line at least once in your life.

Guwahati - Lumding - Silchar: The journey starts wirh the lush greenery of Haflong and joins the banks of River Jatinga and travels along with it for a few hours. Then comes the lush tea plantations of the Barak Valley, which are simply breathtaking

Mettupalayam - Udhagamandalam: About 110 years old, this train journey makes its way through rocky terrain and goes right between tea plantations. A short four and a half hour journey, it is absolutely beautiful.

Konkan route: The Konkan route starts from Mumbai and ends in Kerela. It passes through the Konkan coast, and offeres picturesque beauty throughout. It passes through 98 bridges and 92 tunnels and covers a distance of 760 Kms.

Vasco Da Ma- Londa: A train ride from Vasco da Gama takes you from the serene beaches to the precarious curves of the Western Ghat Mountains offering a breathtaking sight of the Dudhsagar Waterfalls, one of India’s highest and most exquisite falls

Qazigund - Baramulla: Take this route during the winters where there is snow all around. You will love it. Passing through the Kashmir valley, which shows the snow capped peaks all around, sprinkled with chinar trees, is probably one of the most beautiful trip ever.
