If IR would be under private, I am 100% sure that Rail would get profit 4 times. Rail fare would not be hiked even lessen. Modern technology would apply. Timing would be maintained, IR officer who gets patronize by providing them Bungalow Peon would be stopped. Telecom sector is now totally private like Aircel, Vodafone, Tata. But call charge is very low because they have tremendous competition in market. Why Rail would not be got private ???? I think Rail fare would be Rs 3 minimum if it goes to private. Do you know after 7th pay commission Gr d salary would be minimum Rs 30000 where million of unemployed are in India. What will be for educated unemployed. IR officer have power to recruit Bungalow peon, do you know Bungalow peon are permanent employee & get Rs 20000 at present. What is the fault of educated unemployed who have no...

fault but they do not give bribe to Indian Railway officer like GM, DRM, ADRM, Chief Engineer or Doctor. If Rail would be private, all the facility would be abolished. Rail would get more profit & employee would get by their ability & skill.

Commercially, privatization will be a boon for the railways and the financial health of the railways in particular. Personally speaking, I dont entirely support the idea of privatization of IR in entirety, but some limited amount of private participation is inevitable in a large organization like IR.

Elected representatives often depend on instruments of populism to attract the masses in their aim to rule the public. And while in power, they need these instruments to keep the masses satisfied (albeit a sham satisfaction)- And a huge structure like IR is an indispensable tool in that regard. So the government will never let that control off their pockets.

I think it's more of a gradual process, isn't it? With India still seen as a mixed economy i.e both Socialistic as well as Capitalistic to some extent,it's quite difficult to near impossible to divest stake in a massive way.One needs no introduction to the kind of clout the Railway Union has over it's employees, probably along with Banks these two Unions are the strongest of all in India and there is no way the union will lap up the idea of divestment with open arms. :D

to play around the fringes and provide a window of opportunity to the private sector to get their foot in.The opening up of Rail infrastructure recently with 100% F.D.I can be seen as a small start.

It is more tilted in the socialistic direction than a capitalistic one. The right balance can be found when we can get the right blend of private participation. No one knows the right amount of blend, its all trial and error stuff at the moment.

Dear friend don't be immotional. RPF get illegal money from passengers carrying goods which does not get into Rail fund, TTE sells seat to waiting List passengers by Rs 1000 per seat, ECRC sells ticket to broker by which common people have to buy ticket from broker by giving 3 times, IR officers get huge bribe from contractor. Rail track is very weak. If it was British era I support for Rail under Govt. But now I really am dishearten by Rail staff and strongly support for privatization at least partially. Otherwise IR never competes with China who build rail track in Tibet from Lhasa to Sgatse with high speed above 16000 Ft sea level. In China any staff sentence to death if Govt employee caught by bribe or corruption IR never can build. Progressing in Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh is very disheartening. So be realistic.
