On 27 July 15 after Satragachi Aggressively running WAP 7 Pantograph was broken and Engine became dead. @ dasnagar station. Waited for 2 hours for service engineers from Satragachi shed to arrive and ALCO from Howrah station to tow dead WAP 7.
Became real news with ETV BANGLA . ABP ANANDA . AND 24 GHONT arriving at sscene.
which has thrown Bombay Line traffic into dead halt.

As rail enthusiasts we opt for White Locos for Geetanjali Exp which is very natural. But here we have to consider the following points from IR's view point:
1 Why 3 Phase Locos are still not used widely in all Zones of IR and with maximum number of Trains?

Most of the LPs are not trained with the Mechanism of Operation of 3 Phase Locos.
b We have a great number of Tap Changer Locos which exceeds the total number of Mail/Exp Trains running in IR network.
Now, CLW(Chittaranjan Locomotive Works) being the one and only flagship Electric Locomotive Production unit of IR doing everything possible to popularize the 3 Phase Locomotives in IR(i.e WAG-9,WAP-7 & WAP-5).The success has come for WAG-9 and it's other two variants 9H & 9i as because now this class has the highest number of production and allotment figure surpassed it's tap changer competitor WAG-7 production & allotment figures. In almost every zone of IR you can see now WAG-9 locos are being used for freight carriage and almost in every shed WAG-9/9H/9i are homed now.
But the other two 3 Phase Passenger power horse i.e WAP-5 & WAP-7 are still struggling a lot. Why they are struggling?
Because we have plethora of WAP-4,WAP-1 & WAM-4 which can do the service very easily and efficiently which are offered by the 3 Phase WAP-5 & WAP-7.
Moreover, Zonal railways of IR have their own discretion here for these two variants(i.e WAP-5 & WAP-7). Now in this scenario, these two variants(i.e WAP-5 & WAP-7) are not "IMPERATIVE NECESSITY" for IR and it's Zones as because they have Tap Changer Locos like WAP-4,WAP-1 & WAM-4 which can do the job very easily by using the present untrained staff of Indian Railways. All these Tap Changers(Except WAM-4) can be used effectively till 2040. So You won't see any rise in usage of WAP-5 & WAP-7 in IR till 2040 except there is any Compulsion on the following grounds which nullify the discretion of Zonal Railways of IR as well as the Railway Board regarding these Tap Changers
1 Excessive Failure Rate and Punctuality Lost Cases reported for Tap Changers.
2 Tap Changers are restricted by RDSO for usage with Mail/Exp Trains.
If the above noted two incidents are occurred within 2040 then there may be a need felt out of compulsion for the Passenger 3 Phase Variants i.e WAP-5 & WAP-7 and then only you will see more 3 Phasers and less Tap Changers otherwise you have to wait till 2040 to fulfill your dream of seeing 3 Phasers with Geetanjali and many other trains currently hauled by Tap Changers.
Moreover if you follow the Official Railway Website of IR you will see that there are many past orders from Electrical Department of Rail Board to the Zonal Railways to augment their capacity of Loco homage in their trip sheds since 2006-07 but no zonal railways have taken any step regarding this order as yet. Same order for 3 Phasers also have been issued for SER. Here also no action has been taken on the part of SER.
