Earlier it was running from Hubli to Bangalore via Bellary-Guntakal and later extended to Mysore. Route change is not feasible as its mainly meant for UBL-GTL section passengers.

This train was running Bangalore to Hubli and basic aim is to connect Bellary, Tungabhadra regions with the state capital- Hence it takes the longer route- only 2 years back it was extended to mysore owing to pit facilities- Anyway Rani chennamma from Bangalore and Mysore Dharwar Express from Mysore take short routes towards hubli- this train main aim is to connect Bangalore Mysore with Bellary and Gadag for which this route is shortest-For maintainence it has to be stationed at a major station which happens to be hubli

Karnataka Express was introduced via JTJ as KK link Express before getting bifurcated into seperate Karnataka via Secunderabad- Of course later to provide connectivity to other parts of Karnataka, this train was diverted via Raichur, gulbarga thanks to this train giving direct connection to Delhi from this part- Also Karnataka also gives a direct close and fast connection from Bangalore to shiridi by stopping at Kopergaon
anyway not a major issue thanks to Karnataka Sampark kranti which takes faster route via Secunderabad now I guess Karnatala can cater in present route itself providing nice intra state and inter state connection
