A lot of discussion has taken place in the past in IRI about change of the passenger's name in case of a reserved ticket. There have been several queries and suggestions as to how this is to be done. The guidelines are available in the FAQ section. But has anyone in IRI reported having successfully undergone this experience of a change of name. Not as far as I am aware.
Well here is documentary evidence of my own endeavour to change reservation in my son's name to that of my daughter. After a great ordeal I emerged triumphant in the end. To begin with the application by my son seeking transfer of the reservation to his sister.

What I mean is, the IR system does not allow a name change, even during emergencies.
So..people are forced to take the law in their own hands and manipulate the "ticket" even though it is not right..hope it's clear now..

I had successfully done it recently on my journey to Rajasthan in May-2015 with a lot of hustle n tussle.
Mine was ticket booked as Handicapped and my son was booked as escort. Due to his exams he was not able to travel with me, so i decided to take my wife as my escort. So i request a name change for SON to MOTHER.

Handicapped should be allowed all the facilities, it is truly disgusting IR is putting our differently abled citizens to trouble.
However, what about somewhat healthier people, IR has ruled out such an option whatsoever. There are so many factors which we cannot predict, IR has to accept genuine demands..as it is people are tolerating because they have to go from point A to point B. Our PM has spent approx 75 cr Rs in less than a year on foreign trips, mainly by chartered jet, yet truly deserving common man is treated like dirt by IR..
