Yes, strange route but this route covers south Chennai and suburbs . Other than Chennai Egmore - Mangalore express(daily) and Puducherry - Mangalore biweekly express i guess,no other train is available in Chennai - Villupuram- Vridachalam route to Coimbatore . Now as the track from Chennai to Villupuram was doubled also 70% section of Villupuram -Vridachalam doubling work also completed and will open to passenger traffic likely by next month this route has a potential to introduce daily day time train to Salem from Chennai Egmore.
Only drawback in this route was loco reversal needed at Vridhachalam station.
