Imagine a situation that train for Ahimsa Express or Pune Jaipur/Indore (example) departs from Chinchwad or even Khadki for that matter. How do people staying in Hadapsar/ Kondhwa/ Katraj/ Sinhagad Road/ Kothrud/ City area travel to Chinchwad or Khadki. Travelling in PMPML bus with luggage is seriously difficult. And for a train at 3pm, they will have to leave their house at 10-11 am. If you stay in Pune you will be aware about the frequency issue in all areas for direct connectivity. Otherwise people will have to take 2-3 connecting buses.
And travelling in auto rickshaw ....lol.....people will land up paying more money then SL ticket from Pune to Indore/Jaipur.

is the situation for South bound trains. Hadapsar station is way away from actual Hadapsar. It is next to Magarpatta City. No bus connectivity.
If North bound depart from Hadapsar and South bound from Chinchwad, their halt time in Pune will be 5 mins and thus help in decongession of Pune Yard and station.
You are taking about Mumbai. Train from BCT/BDTS are north and west bound as they take the WR route. And special train for KR and vellankanni do leave from BDTS. Also, the trains departing from BDTS have halt at BVI which is fansacticallt connected by suburban train service....NO issue for passengers at all. Train departing from LTT halt at Thane and Kalyan. Again good connectivity stations.
