Can I board at any station? Further I mention that I reserve the train before 500 km. away from the bording station.

yes, u can. There is an option of changing boarding point while booking your tickets on IRCTC
yes its better to do it while taking reservation only.
Select the boarding point as Lucknow and book from delhi at the time of reservation only.
