Observations during Chinchwad-Pune journey by EMU local train on new year's day 01-01-2008 from 15:30 to 16:30 hrs!
Following are the observations during Chinchvad-Pune journey as well as at Pune Railway Station on Tuesday, 1st January, 2008, from 15:30 to 16:30 hrs (afternoon observations)!
1) I reached Chichwad (CCH)...
more... railway station at 15:30 hrs. And since I have monthly season ticket (MST Pass) for Pune-Akurdi-Pune, I entered station (no need to buy ticket). I heard annoucement of Pune-Talegaon local expected on PF3 soon.
2) Chinchwad Station has 4 platforms! Actually, there are 2 island platforms with each platform having 2 trains accomodation facility, thereby making 4 platforms! Each platform is similar to single island platform seen at KanjurMarg Station in CR Mumbai Division.
3) Platform 3 is for up trains bound for Lonavala. And platform 2 is for down trains towards Pune! Platform 1 and 4 are usually having goods trains occupying them or are mostly empty! There are also 2 through lines between PF2 and PF3. Thus, in total, there are 6 BG lines at CCH Station!
4) At 15:30 hrs, as soon as I entered Chinchwad, T6 Pune-Talegaon local came on PF3 and soon proceeded towards Talegaon.
5) On the PF4 line, a small departmental rake headed by green PUNE WDM2 # 17937 was ready to proceed towards Lonavala. Concrete sleepers were being unloaded from this departmental rake.
6) On the down through line between PF2/3, 18-20 coach long goods train consisting of all parcel vans was waiting to proceed towards Pune. This high capacity parcel vans rake was headed by orange KYN WDG3A # 13366 Shakti Loco! Nice to spot one of the latest Kalyan Shakti 13366 on the new year's day! The parcel van rake consisted of mixed parcel vans from CR/SCR/NR/ECR. And many parcel vans had posters (actually computer printouts on A4 size papers and pasted like stickers) with markings of "Modified Auto VPU - Dedicated to 'TCI'"! So, these VPU wagons are for the dedicated use by Travel
Corporation of India. I spoke with one of the loco pilots to check if the parcel van train had come from Lonavla/Mumbai side. He, however, said that the rake was in the siding of Chinchwad station and is now being taken towards Pune!
7) Soon announcement was made (in Marathi language) that travelers on PF2 should keep away from the edges of platform as one fast train will be proceeding from PF2! I knew that the train will be Mumbai-Nagarcoil Exp and is taking PF2 line as parcel vans rake is on the main down through line!
8) At 15:40 hrs, 6351 Mumbai-Tirupati-Nagercoil Exp speeded towards Pune with KYN WCAM3 # 21892!
9) On the PF1 line, 7-8 container coaches marked with UASC or Maersk were standing. There was no loco attached to this goods train with 7-8 coaches.
10) I then proceeded towards PF2 and I was waiting for L15 Lonavala-Pune local. I was waiting near the station master's office. Some phone rang and I heard station master enquiring if the incoming train is Indore Exp! I soon ran towards the FOB (Foot Over Bridge).
11) From the FOB, I saw 9311 Pune-Indore Exp headed by BL WCAM1 # 21841 speeding towards Lonavala using the UP through line between PF2/3.
12) At present, there is only 1 FOB at Chinchwad. And the work for second FOB is just started. Second FOB may be operational in 1 year or so!
13) Soon announcement was made that L15 LNL-PUNE EMU being expected on PF2. And again, after 1 minute or so, annoucement was made that L15 is running late by 10 minutes!
14) Finally, at 15:58 hrs, L15 Lonavala-Pune local came on PF2. I boarded this train to go to Pune!
15) As my local was leaving Chinchwad station (after overtaking parcel van rake with Kalyan WDG3A 13366 Shakti), I saw 1008 Pune-Mumbai Deccan Exp headed by KYN WCG2 # 20126 moving towards Lonavala.
16) At Kasarwadi station, I saw L20 Pune-Lonavala local moving towards LNL on the opposit line.
17) Near Dapodi Station, I saw work of new Road Over Bridge (ROB) going in full swing on the Lonavala end of Dapodi Station. The existing level crossing is towards Pune end of Dapodi Station. I think, the new ROB will be ready by June-2008 or so!
18) At Khadaki station, I saw Kurla Shunter CLA WDS4B # 19504 shunting goods wagons. There were 2 more military rake goods trains (without loco) at the station.
19) Between Khadaki and Shivajinagar, 6530 Bangalore-Mumbai Udyan Exp was seen moving towards Lonavala with KJM WDP4 # 20031 loco. WDP4 was in long hood forward (LHF) mode towards Mumbai!
20) As my EMU crossed Sangam Bridge over river (between Shivajinagar and Pune), I saw 1030 Kolhapur-Mumbai Koyana Exp with KJM WDP4 # 20032! Koyana was heading towards Shivajinagar with WDP4 loco in short hood forward (SHF) mode towards Mumbai direction.
21) Finally, my L15 Lonavala-Pune local came on PF5 of Pune station at 16:22 hrs and later, the same EMU rake departed from PF5 at 16:30 hrs as L22 Pune-Lonavala local!
22) On the way, at electric trip shed at Pune, I saw BL WCAM1 # 21838 # 21852 and KYN WCAM3 # 21881 # 21889 # 21892 # 21962 locos! There was no WCG2 loco! (Note: Today morning 02-Jan-2008, in the electric trip shed, there were 3 BL WCAM1 locos and 1 KYN WCG2 loco and 2-3 more locos)!
23) 7031 Mumbai-Hyderabad Exp arrived on PF4 from Mumbai side with orange KZJ WDM3A # 18895R loco. HYB Exp now runs with Kazipet diesel from Mumbai itself, so no loco change at Pune!
24) 2780 Nizamuddin-Vasco Goa Exp arrived on PF1 with orange PUNE WDG3A # 14886 loco. Later, the same loco reversed to haul Goa SF Exp towards Miraj.
25) Pit line between PF2/3 at Pune had single GY WDM3A # 14013 baldie (buldge face towards Mumbai). This Gooty WDM3A 14013 must have come with 1030 KOP-CSTM Koyana Exp and will later haul 6381 Mumbai-Kannyakumari Exp. Gooty baldie 14013 had markings of "LOCO FITTED WITH AUTO EMERGENCY BRAKES"!
26) Derated green PUNE WDM2S # 18495 was seen roaming around! This loco had come back to Pune after 2-3 months or so (and was probably doing shunting duties at Loni or Daund)! Derated brown PUNE WDM2S # 17168 was also waiting for shunting duties.
27) The rake 1621A Pune-Satara Passenger was seen on PF6 as usual. The loco had not come from loco shed yet.
28) The rake of 1077 Pune-Jammutawi Jhelum Exp was seen on PF3 as usual. The loco had not come from loco shed yet.
29) Pit line near PF6 had freshly painted orange KZJ WDM3A # 18886R (ready to move out) and orange KZJ WDM3A # 18894R (at dead end).
30) Finally, at 16:30 hrs, as I was leaving Pune station, I saw 6340 Nagercoil-Mumbai Exp arriving on PF2 with blue/white ED WDM3D # 11183!
Thus, new year's day trip was concluded! A great day with diesel locos from PUNE, KZJ, KJM, GY, KYN and CLA! And electric locos from BL and KYN (4 Kalyan WCAM3 locos)! Nice to see Kalyan 13366 and Erode 11183 for the first time at Pune! Nice to see consecutive locos KJM 20031 20032 at Pune! And nice to see KZJ 18894 18895 at Pune on the same day! Various types of locos seen on 01-01-2008 are WDM2, WDM3A, WDG3A, WDM3D, WDP4, WDS4B and WCAM1, WCAM3, WCG2!
