Dear Sir,
This is to bring to your notice about the Rail traffic congestion seen at Madgaon Railway Station outer signal. As on date, many trains do not get clear entry into Madgaon Railway Station and because of which they have to indefinitely wait at either station outers or at previous station till a train occupying Platform vacates it. This results in unwarranted delay for trains moving in and out of Madgaon Station despite arriving on time at outer. Thus the major reason behind the above is clearly lack of sufficient Platforms at Madgaon Railway Station as all the train traffic (including freights) at present use the available 3 Platforms and 3 loop lines to cross Madgaon Jn.
Where the train is set to start or terminate at Madgaon Jn, the waiting period is even longer and so is the case for trains having loco reversal at Madgaon Jn. We are also given to understand that Konkan Railway is expediting construction of additional couple of platforms at Madgaon Namely PF 4/5 but the progress is tardy, rather there is no progress at all. Increasing the number of Platforms at Madgaon Jn has become a necessity of the day with lot more trains being added in Konkan Railway. Even though KR authorities might think otherwise but that’s what the truth is.
In this regard, please advise as under:-
1. What is the present progress about construction of new Platforms (4/5) at Madgaon Jn?
2. By what time the same is expected to be completed?
3. What is the reason that is hindering the progress of the construction works?
4. Any specific plan is being considered by KR for increasing PFs at Madgaon JN?
5. We have observed that just near PF 1, a smaller Platform is available which can accommodate 10-12 coacher trains. Can this PF be optimally used to terminate shorter trains like Mumbai 11085/86 LTT – Mao Double Decker and if possible even 12051/52 MAO Jan Shatabdi Express? Of course, it will involve considerable makeover/extension of that Platform and yard remodelling and an additional couple of locomotives will be required as Stand by but that will ensure that these trains do not hamper the main line traffic.
6. There is also a requirement of additional Foot Over Bridge (FOB) connecting all the Platforms at Mangalore End of Madgaon Jn as the waiting hall/retirement room/ refreshment room is situated very closely and it will ensure an equal distribution of passenger traffic over these FOBs
Please arrange to provide point wise replies to the above.
We request you to kindly expedite the construction works at the earliest.
Thanking You,
Yours faithfully,
S V Iyer
