the Great Indian Peninsular Railway (Central Railway's original name), in the 1880s there were four classes for commuters to travel in 1st 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The 4th class was called coolie class. The 3rd class later on with some modifications came to be known as inter class
Platform tickets were introduced in 1883 following complaints that they were not entitled to enter railway premises to see off or to receive their relatives.
