The announcement of East Coast Railway (ECoR) on the extension and ‘change of timings’ of the bi-weekly ‘Suvidha’ train between Visakhapatnam and Krishnarajapuram has evoked widespread criticism from rail users of Visakhapatnam on Twitter.
They tweeted to express their resentment at the ‘bias’ of ECoR against Visakhapatnam. They felt that converting a highly successful train into a ‘Suvidha’ special with high fares without increasing its speed, and now the schedule to give it the most inconvenient timings for passengers from Visakhapatnam was a reflection of the attitude of ECoR headquarters towards Visakhapatnam. They had changed the slot of the Visakhapatnam – Tirupati special to the most inconvenient slot in the past. They felt that it was given the Bhubaneswar-Bengaluru slot, which was

a flop, in a bid to show that there is no demand from Visakhapatnam also. One fan tweeted: “May be they (ECoR) will run the ‘white elephant’ BBS-BNC in our VSKP-KJM slot. They copy everything from VSKP.”
Another fan tweeted: “You asked for constructive suggestions then why are you not looking at those people (passengers), who want 02877 in its old slot”?
Representation
It may be recalled that on a representation submitted on behalf of thousands of Telugus, living in Bengaluru, the South Western Railway (SWR) had operated a special train from Bengaluru to Visakhapatnam during Sankranti last year, which was an overwhelming success. SWR wanted to continue the special train but ECoR chipped in and said it would operate the special.
E Co R introduced 02877/78 Visakhapatnam-Krishnarajapuram-Visakhapatnam as a Tatkal special, which also had tremendous patronage. During the last extension of the special train, ECoR had converted the train into a Suvidha Special with dynamic fare, without increasing the speed. Despite these drawbacks and high fare, 02877 continued to have good patronage.
Meanwhile, ECoR has placed the new timetable of 02877/02878 on Twitter. 02877 Visakhapatnam-Krishnarajapuram will leave Visakhapatnam on Tuesdays and Fridays with effect from April 5 to June 24, 2016, at 5.30 a.m. and reach Krishnarajapuram on the same night at 11.
In the return direction, 02878 will leave Krishnarajrapuram on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1 a.m. (past midnight) and arrive here at 6 p.m. the same days.
Needless to say, these are the most inconvenient timings for passengers from Visakhapatnam, who have spend an entire day in the train, after shelling out double or more than double the normal fare, depending on the time of booking for this ‘Suvidha’ or rather ‘asuvidha’.
