It is pleasing to see that WAP-7 is cordially greeted by CR and allotted to KYN with it's brother WAG-9. In CR now both WAP-7 & WAG-9 has made their stronger presence now both in AJNI & in KYN which is a great achievement on the part of CR. In the same manner WR is also to be appreciated for it's latest addition of WAP-7 in it's BRC Shed. Now BRC is a very powerful 3-Phase heaven with plethora of WAP-5 and WAG-9 & WAP-7.

While your concerns are valid, the fact that WAG9's have penetrated almost all the electrified territory on IR's network shows that most of the zones are welcoming the addition of 3 phase locomotives to their fleet. The reason behind the behind these zones preferring WAG9 our WAP7 has got to do with the kind of traffic they have and the abundance of WAP4 locos in this region.
Both SER and ECoR see very heavy freight traffic. And a WAG9 is substantially better than a WAG5 or a WAG7 and can haul heavier loads effortlessly. In addition, regenerative braking ( rheostatic braking in case of conventional locos ) is most useful with freight trains only ( The...
