====== Attempt of Railfans(All of Us) Failed to home WAP-7 in SER & ECOR =======
It is pleasing to see that WAP-7 is cordially greeted by CR and allotted to KYN with it's brother WAG-9. In CR now both WAP-7 & WAG-9 has made their stronger presence now both in AJNI & in KYN which is a great achievement on the part of CR. In the same manner WR is also to be appreciated for it's latest addition of WAP-7 in it's BRC Shed. Now BRC is a very powerful 3-Phase heaven with plethora of WAP-5 and WAG-9 & WAP-7.

case of WAG-9 almost all zones are very Co-operative and home them in their respective Loco Shed. But in case of WAP-5 & WAP-7 they can't strongly penetrate the Eastern Region of our Country like WAG-9 the reason is may be WAG-9 is a Powerful Freight Loco and the rest two are passenger ones. But what we have seen in case of SER & ECOR is the "Deliberate reluctance towards WAP-7/WAP-5" . If you see the neighbor of both SER & ECOR you will find SECR & CR & SR all these 3 Zones are receptive towards 3-Phase Passenger Variant WAP-7.
Still 12801/12802 Purushottam Exp is hauled by SRC WAP-4 in between KGP & PURI where after KGP it is hauled by GZB WAP-7 regularly..... The Reason of it best known to SER & ECOR I think.(Please refer 1st Reply of this BLOG to know one reason of it already shared)
I don't think WAP-7 will be greeted cordially in these two main Zones of Eastern India(i.e SER & ECOR) in any day rather they are very proud of their Conventional Machineries and want to use them as many time as they can in future.
We, Railfans made plenty of efforts through Social Media to the Officials of SER & ECOR regarding homing of WAP-7 in their respective zone but it was utter frustration that all our efforts proved FUTILE in this regard, they still saying "WE DO NOT NEED WAP-7". But the Officials are very modern in case of WAG-9 and dumping them in VSKP(ECOR) & TATA(SER) but in case of WAP-7 they have the following Pleas:
1 WE DO NOT NEED WAP-7(But has not mentioned the Actual Reason as yet to the Public)
2 OUR LP'S ARE NOT TRAINED IN 3-PHASE LOCO (Self Contradictory Statement as WAG-9 is a 3-Phase Goods Loco)
etc etc........
So Clever Officials ....... Kudos to them ........
Do you think WAP-7 can be able to Penetrate SER & ECOR ?(Means SER & ECOR can home them) in Future ?

Views are welcome.

While your concerns are valid, the fact that WAG9's have penetrated almost all the electrified territory on IR's network shows that most of the zones are welcoming the addition of 3 phase locomotives to their fleet. The reason behind the behind these zones preferring WAG9 our WAP7 has got to do with the kind of traffic they have and the abundance of WAP4 locos in this region.
Both SER and ECoR see very heavy freight traffic. And a WAG9 is substantially better than a WAG5 or a WAG7 and can haul heavier loads effortlessly. In addition, regenerative braking ( rheostatic braking in case of conventional locos ) is most useful with freight trains only ( The

power savings that you have shared in your earlier posts are almost all because of freight trains only). This way, WAG9 makes a considerable difference to the freight part of IR, as it can haul loads that usually require 2 WAG7's or 3 WAG5's and thus reduces operating costs considerably. In this case, it is not just the first locomotive with a new technology ( 3 phase based machines), but also adds a substantial advantage to the freight industry, allowing for longer and heavier freights.
The difference in case of passenger locos is not much. IR still restricts the passenger train's length to 24 coaches or 26 coaches. This is something both WAM4 and WAP4 handle very effortlessly. And if the rakes are switched to LHB, then WAP4 can very easily handle them as the rakes are lighter. This way, the difference in run time , quality of service etc between WAP7 and WAP4 is not much. Compared to the benefits provided by switching from WAG5/7 to WAG9, moving from WAP4 to WAP5/7 is not very significant. In the passenger segment, the WAP7 is not truly a next generation locomotive, rather it is just the stepping stone to the next generation. In the passenger segment, the main reason to switch to P7 is to prepare the network for the upcoming high speed, high HP passenger locomotives. And since a significant portion of the conventional loco roster is being gradually phased out, it is a good time to start switching to P7's. For this reason, both these zones are emphasizing more on having G9 locos. The large freight traffic here means that WAG9's are simply invaluable, while the WAP4s at SRC, VSKP, HWH, LGD can comfortably serve passenger routes here. For these routes, WAG9 is the need of the hour, more than WAP7.
