I want to travel from Rajkot (RJT) to Somnath (SMNH) (& return) with my cycle. What shall be procedure to take my cycle along. The train I select is overnight, so any kind of clerical office work involved will not be feasible.

There are two type of bookings, 1 is parcel and other is ticket booking, parcel office timings are upto 5 pm or so. But ticket bookings can be made throughout. You can contact booking office with your ticket and get your cycle booked and you can get the cycle loaded on the same train.
On a lighter note
Go by cycle itself

Thanks for info. I shall enquire at booking office prior to make my plan. Well, RJT-SMNH is approx 194 km, little difficult to go by cycle, as I am planning to go to Diu, so planned to take train upto Somnath and then cycling approx 90 km to Diu.

Well, yesterday I visited Rajkot Jn station to enquire about carrying cycle. The person at general inquiry window told me to approach parcel booking office. The clerk at parcel booking office told that its not guaranteed that the cycle will be loaded into the same train in which you travel, it depends on discretion of railways. Moreover, I need to put my cycle before 9.00 pm for train of 2.30 am. I am very disappointed with his reply as well as his approach.
I think, this is the 1st type of booking, i.e. parcel booking. What is the procedure for 2nd type, i.e. ticket booking? and to whom should I contact for more information?
