I have heard that EMD's are good Loco though I have no practical Experience of travelling in any train hauled by EMD Locos. But what I had witnessed today in Sodepur is simply horrible. minutes I saw UP KOAA Radhikapur Express passing through Track No: 3 with BWN WDM-3A in Charge. Now just crossing PF no: 3 the loco started gaining Speed. When the Loco started gaining speed I have seen that "FIRE IS EMITTED PROFUSELY WITH SMOKE FROM THE CHIMNEY OF THE LOCO OF RADHIKAPUR EXPRESS". Thank God the train quickly vanished from the area. SDAH Main Section is fully electrified section. So if such Fire catch the OHE then a Massive Disaster will happen.
I am sorry to say WDM-3A Locos are very old now & not fit for Long Haulage. These should be used for Shunting now. Secondly, under Electrified Section usage of Diesel Locos should be stopped permanently by Indian Railways to reduce environmental hazards as well as to prevent any Fire related hazards that may occur from the Engine of Diesel Locos.
WDM-3A becomes really dangerous now.
