You may correct (for some trains) regarding the facts what so ever you have provided. Here I am talking about the "reputed and deserved train", which should have I-AC class. I think you thought about profit making and patronage.
In addition to this, regarding the patronage, Here are some examples, which needs another I-AC coach such as Pushpak Express, Punjab Mail because there are long WL in this class through out the year.

As I said, 1A can work on a 'few' trains[I chose the Purushottom Exp from the list; maybe it can survive an HA1 coach]. Pushpak needs another coach,no doubt, since it is the flagship train of NER on this section[though it runs with 24 coaches already and addition won't be possible].
Once you augment the coach...then only one can calculate the patronage!1 Here I am talking the same thing buddy. Yours all points are absolutely valid.
I know dat u know very well. Dats why u were prompted to say dat 2-3 sl can be removed from Geetanjali comfortably.
