Why are some stations given extension as 'Central' (eg Kanpur Central) and some are given 'Road' (eg Nasik Road)?
Dont know about central but stations having suffix 'road' are not in the main town and mostly not even near the particular city..
Nasik city is quite far from Nasik road station thats why the station is known as nasik road coz it must be situated on the road which connects it to the city..

The "Road" after the station indicates that it's the nearest railhead for that particular town. The road to that town originates at this station:you still need to travel a while by road to get to that town.
