SunilKulkarni~ 2006 blog postsHMRDC Contract Termination will enable better passenger services from Bangalore-Mangalore and it should be done in 2019 March below are few details.
There are few clauses in HMRDC which are as below. Suggestion is to terminate the contract on 19th March 2019(less than three years from now). By this Indian Railways will have to pay 10% less money.
Please see the clauses which acts as spoiler for Bangalore-Mangalore passenger trains.

Passenger service improvement in this route is possible only if SWR shows interest and becomes pro-active. Going by the first clause of the agreement, SWR is entitled to run services equivalent to the MG services without access charges. This alone gives the scope to run at least 4 pairs of daily trains ( I remember there were around 6-7 services on this route during MG era) and some select weeklies. So, even within the limits imposed by the HMRDC, SWR is not really performing efficiently. There is no push from the local leaders and the private bus lobby is way too strong here. HMRDC or no HMRDC, until those problems are tackled, there will be no improvements in this route.
