This clears up confusion. I have been to SDAH and could only see upto 9C in the main terminal.

Because you haven't entered the South Terminal. It is only used for EMUs, southbound (Baruipur, Canning, Budge Budge, Diamond Harbour, Namkhana etc). So, if you are not a local person, you don't need to go towards that side. Kindly see the screenshot attached to find the location of the South terminal.
