Many countries PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION inside cities are free/nominal cost. As per my knowledge every day 40 lakh people use mumbai LOCAL. If price is more these people takes roads which creates hell for a traffic and pollution.
The way railways wasting money running on EMPTY train and spending money on political projects will be 1000% higher than what these fare hike revenue generates.
As usual railways wont steam line their working style. Fare increase is always a easy way to escape.
