this really ridiculous.
when i am ready to pay full amount , why all this running around at last minute.
why can't they simply give me my boarding stn as of now only.
or is it possible if i book a normal tkt from any station counter , will they give me a confirm tkt from delhi to ranchi but boarding at kanpur,

basically, if you are booking at delhi and would like to enjoy kanpur quota, will it not reduce the quota of kanpur which even otherwise has a limited number of seats. you are eating into kanpur quota.
it is not ridiculous.
if you change the boarding station later after booking your ticket, the berth till kanpur may or may not be allotted to anybody (depending upon vacancy) or a short distance passenger will enjoy the benefit of your vacancy till kanpur. after kanpur your berth is assured.

is the reason you were advised to book your tickets first and then change instead of opting for boarding from another station which has got separate quota in the same train.
