In the second week of march, planning to visit shimla from delhi.
How will be the punctuality of this train reaching Kalka at 4.30am?
Can we catch RAIL MOTOR 72541 which leaves at 5am?

In the second week of march its punctuality will be good. There is a toy train to Shimla which is attached with this train such that it always departs 15-30m after the arrival of Kalka Mail

I visited years ago. Don't know whether it would apply in present time. Morning trains leaving for Shimla waited for Kalka Mail to arrive. It was in the month of February. 12312 was about 2 hours late that day.
Bhai 3 hrs tak minimum delay le kar chaliye.. long route ki train hai..almost late hi rehti hsi.. back up time le k plan banaiye..
