Controllers of SR/TVC having a filed day today; almost all up trains are running late.
A sample of their efficency: 66301 ERS QLN MEMU was held @ KRPP for 20 minutes for a twin light loco to pass; this train could've easily reached ETM for this crossing.
66301 held again @KTYM for twin crossings: 12515 & a goods train.

sending a goods train in between many express trains, that too on a day when thousands of pilgrims are returning home after Makaravilakku @ Sabarimala. Thanks to this superior decision added to heavy rush from CNGR, 16525, 12082, QLN MAS Suvidha, 12624 etc are all running late.
To make a long story short, 66301 eventually reached QLN @ 1950, after getting overtaken by 16605 at PRND. As per railway records, it was just an hour late(actually it was 90 minutes late @ PRND; so think about the slack!).
(PS: I do accept that you pay nominal fare in passenger trains; but does it mean the train shouldn't be allowed to run to its approved time table?!)

Priority is set by the Operations manual and important aspects are incorporated in Working Time Table(WTT) circulated to operation staff. AFAIK, Goods are not supposed to get priority over any kind of passenger trains; but in reality they accord priority to goods, especially oil tankers etc to ensure their arrival ON TIME, which fetches railways some incentive or additional charges.
