The slow down was expected. BG is not suitable for ghat sections, unless a very huge expenditure is involved. With heavier coaches, wagons, locomotives and rails, the routes also become very restrictive. The gauge conversion is only to provide a continuous service, instead of making passengers switch trains twice. And also to reduce freight costs both for IR as well as the freight customers. The only benefit for the passenger is increased capacity per train.
