I have bk my tickets in Janashatabdi train no 2071. would like to know if food is free because while doing on-line booking , it asked for the food preference (Veg / Non-Veg).

Food is not provided for free in Jan-Shatabdi trains.One has to pay for it. I guess they ask for preference of food while online booking so that the pantry people have a rough idea of the amount of food that they need to stock in the train.
It could also be due to the fact that they used to have an integrated ticket price (including food cost) when the JanShatabdis were started as a concept. Within a few months this was stopped along with the fact that it was kind of made unreserved.
