I have a similar issue.
My boarding point is kgp-kharagpur and I want to board the train from the next station tata which is 1 and 1/2 hr min from KGp.
Is it necessary to inform the railways?

I want small info about kakinada main line project do any one know it?
if i book tkt from irctc online then how is it possible to inform or give up date of my boarding point from another station not the from the booked station. as during booking bording point option is available there...but while going further it is showing wl from tata. not 137 vacant seat from kgp as i m booking from that station
Book tkt from KGP . Dont change boarding point while booking . after fiishing the booking approach nearest PRS counter. meet the chief reservation supervisior and A specific request must be made in writing at the station from where the ticket is purchased and reservation made atleast 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train from the starting station.
The Railway Administration reserves the right to use such accommodation from the originating station up to the station at which the passenger is due to entrain.
No refund will be permissible...
