The railway fare increase is expected from Sep 1. The TTE"s in running trains operate a parallel booking office but the revenue goes into their pockets.I have travelled very frequently from Mumbai to chennai. I have seen many people board sleeper coaches, some without ticket and some with ordy 2 class ticket. After the train leaves every junction, the TTE 's collect Rs 50 from each person for travel to next junction and says otherwise pay Rs 250 as penalty.It is cheaper to pay Rs 50.Each TTE earns this way Rs 500 to Rs 1000 per day.This is besides "on money" by selling vacant berths.
