Long-distance train derails at Kalyan near Mumbai, disrupts services
Mumbai city news: Commuters were taken by surprise after the train halted abruptly while changing tracks.
Passengers on the Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express’ panicked after its engine derailed near Kalyan station at 2.18 pm on Friday.

“The train halted suddenly. A few of my co-passengers started shouting, saying the train had derailed. Officials told us that it was just the engine that had been derailed and that none of the passengers were hurt,” said a passenger, who did not wish to be identified.
Services between Kasara and Kalyan station were disrupted till 3.15 pm. As many as 15 suburban services between Kasara and Titwala were fully cancelled and eight partially cancelled.
Services on the Kalyan to Kasara route and those between Kalyan and Karjat resumed at 3.30 pm. Workers finished rerailing the tracks at 3.55 pm.
Central Railway officials distributed food packets to passengers in the meantime.
“On hearing about the derailment, our accident relief train rushed to the spot. Anil Kumar Gupta, general manager, Central Railway and senior railway officials supervised the rerailing of the engine. Constant announcements made over the public address system at stations kept passengers updated,” said A K Singh, public relations officer, Central Railway.
The train reached Kalyan platform 5 at 4.18 pm.
The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation added four buses on the Mohane to Kalyan route so passengers would not be inconvenienced.
