The decision to shift the departure platform of Deccan Queen was taken after the authorities decided to attach an additional coach to several trains that previously used to arrive at platform 1 including Jhelum Express, Azad Hind Express and Patliputra Express.
All these trains have now become 24 coach trains.Among the six platforms on Pune Railway Station, only Platform 1 has the capacity to host a 24-coach rake.

Azadhind, Goa Express are some trains which departs from PF 3.

According to me, demand by passengers are right.
From last 75 years, it was departing from PF 1.
The main thing is more than 50% commuters are daily travelers which are leaving from Pune attending office in Mumbai and coming back to Pune in the night.
If the train departs from PF 1, they can easily catch it even though they reached station little...

A small correction PF #3 has capacity to handle 24 coaches but not PF #2, loco standings are bifurcated from PF #2. However PF#6 is also getting ready to handle 24 coaches.
