Yes, the 3rd DEMU you said, had no protection at all. The grills were simply slits that's all... the whole thing was a glass-type material. Stone throw away from the whole thing breaking. Just a metallic bar place vertically in the middle.
This window too was the same window (both DEMUs were 2015 manufactured ones) but with a grill sealed from outside.
