Inaugurated on 5th April 2008 from Kolar station. Was originally scheduled to be inaugurated on 3rd April by the then Union minister of state for Railways R.Velu, but was postponed due to the imposition of the model code of conduct preceding the state elections.
Initially used to depart from KQZ at 6:10 AM in the morning, but was rescheduled to the present slot following protests from commuters.
