((Online Booking of tickets under SS quota - Lower berth quota ))
..... This is for the benefit of bloggers and passengers who are eligible for this privilege quota but depriving for want of info ...........(power of single booking)
Additional seats (quota - of lower berths) are available under SS quota code.
To obtain ticket under SS code , the passenger
...
has to satify following both the conditions.
a) Passenger is travelling alone. and
b) Age criterias - for females (above 45 yrs), for males (above 60 yrs)
Based on the details filled up on online booking page....
The system automatically considers any booking requisiton on the basis of 45+ female and 60+ male senior citizens travelling alone (single booking) for SS quota vacant berths.
In near future, a new specific tick mark Tab is expected to be introduced by IRCTC.
*** Note that ....There is no seperate tab provided for tick mark for SS quota.
**Obviously the age proof carrying for 45+ female passenger , during travelling is must to support her eligibility under this quota . The failure to produce age proof may entail fine to be imposed by TTE.
*** 60+ male /female passengers anyway comes under Senior citizen category for fare concession and age proof carrying must for them. In case 60+ male passenger has not tick marked for fare concession (available on demand) , he is still bound to produce age proof if he has obtained ticket under SS quota.

You are right. I did not clarify. It's only in reserved coaches but not in unreserved coaches.

Mr. Pradeep Kumar,
The post relates SS quota.
You are lucky that many times you travelled but never been charged or tte's never asked for age proof . Under which quota tickets ? This is recently added specific quota.
In a way, thank that you also agree that by rules, you are supposed to carry age id proof but mostly
...

it will not be asked by the TTE. Can you definitely say that TTE's will not ask to you in future also. Can we ask passengers ( 45+ females / 60+ males alone travelling) to take such avoidable risk and ask to be bold in arguments with TTE ? What are grounds with these passengers to argue with TTE except excusing and praying for waiver.
What does that mean ?
Is it good to advise passengers that Rules are there but no such age id proof is needed during journey as TTE's never ask ?
In case if it is asked, then what recourse those passengers have except arguments and prayer for waiver.

Is it possbile for a woman 45+ travelling alone to face such invited (but avoidable) tussles ?
If a woman of say 30-35 yrs books ticket by filling up age 45+ and gets ticket under SS quota, then is it the intention and logic of Rlys to allow such misuse by passengers ?
The SS quota is available for single traveller 45+ women and 60+ male only (single booking) and not family ticket bookings. In other bookings, this SS quota is not utilised and if any balance seats remaining under this quota, gets released to General WL passengers and no mention to the passenger from which quota, his/her tikcet got released.
This is by far, not advisable/suggested by me ( repeat ... by me) to those SS quota passengers for not carrying age id proof . You may be having different views. That's okay with me. I won't say you are wrong in your views.

You are right in your views Mr.Kapadia and I appreciate the same. Thanking you for consedering all views expressed by everyone the then commenting logically. I also agree with you on certen TTE/ Ticket Checking Squad who have harrased the passanger in the past by manipulating the rules to sute the situation.
It happhed once for my co-passanger in 1063 now 2163 MAS-DR Super Express. the passanger had brought a children tricycle into the compartment and after renigunta the checking squad fined them saying that they had to booking it in SLR even when the person said that he had visited the parcel office at MAS and they had informed that he can carry it with him in compartment under free

laguage quota only. They had around 5 ticket and were well within the quota itself. On reaching GTL I purchaced a Train at a Glange and even in that it was clearely mentioned that a children tricycle can be carred under free laguage quota only.He then tried to get hold of those persons but they had deboarded a Tadapatri itself.
I Am just telling this to support your argument that it is possible that a passanger may be drawn into tussel.
Also the rules only state that lower birth are reserved for women 45+ and mail senior citizen travelling alone. Its no were given explicetely that they have to carry and produce age proof on demand as given for senior citizen quota.

Good info cum views.
***All specific quota seats are available on production of necessary documents at PRS counter only.
Ladies Quota and SS quota , are available both at counter and online e-ticket. (Apart from General/ Tatkal quota).
The criteria is 45+ and 60+ age and hence an obvious onus on the passenger to produce age proof.

As already posted, there is no extra cost --- carrying age id proof but works as a "First Aid" in case situation demands. The specific quotas are from priority angle to specified categories and the passenger-users are duty bound and under a mandate to produce his/her eligibility as and when demanded. The TTE's are also empowered to take necessary actions to check any misuse.
ii) Good info on tricycle incident.
Good wishes to you.
