Introduced as SR's second Rajdhani 2631/32 between Madras Central and Hazrat Nizamuddin on July 3rd, 1993 ( Not clear if this is the date for the Down train or the UP train). It was a weekly rajdhani, sharing a slot with the Bangalore Rajdhani. In a short while, the rake maintenance for both Bangalore and Madras Rajdhani's was transfered to NR, with the number changing to 2431/32 for the MAS Raj. From July 1st, 1994, it was extended to run till Trivandrum, with the rake reversing at Madras Central. After the Konkan railway was opened, this was diverted via the Konkan route from April, 1998.

That 1998 must have been one super year for railfans. So many trains introduced re-routed all at once on KR route. If some railfan were in that route with a camera, then sheer joy to spot all those new trains....
