Hello fellow IRIans. If details of train travel in the United States intrigues you by any magnitude, you may want to follow this blog as I plan to bring about live updates of my maiden train journey aboard the Amtrak (AMerica-TRAcK) this week.
I'd start off in the town of Cincinnati, Ohio on the 9th of December, 01:40 local time (9th Dec 12:10 hrs IST) on board Cardinal #51. This train runs between New York and Chicago (via Washington DC, Cincinnati and Indianapolis). The scheduled arrival of the Cardinal at Chicago will be 10:00 hrs on the same day (21:30 hrs IST).

Thanks.
Checking in bags is very convenient. I have travelled from St Paul MN to Jackson MS with a change of train at Chicago IL three or four times. It was very convenient to check my heavy bags at St Paul tagged all the way upto Jackson. Thanks to this system I was able to visit a few sights in Chicago during the 4-5 hours waiting time carrying my light hand baggage.
Another interesting thing about AMTRAK I found (and you can confirm for those interested) was that in most trains...

Here is a wiki link on Superliners of AMTRAK. I find it quite exhaustive. I am sure are now in a position to update this wiki page. Your blog has provided lot of good information to IRI members. Some of the members might find this link interesting: click here

Also one coach is of one particular kind. Slepping coaches will only have sleeping accommodation and similarly with coach seats (CC Class)
Secondly, the doubled decked coaches have a limited amount of coach seats on the lower level as well (12 odd seats or so) (Check the windows in pic 2). If you aren't interested in the better view from the upper deck,...

Yeah. Now I remember my Atlanta- Washington journey was by CRESCENT which was a sngle decker train. These trains are called as VIEWLINERS. The double decker ones are called SUPERLINERS
Wonder whether you read about the AMTRAK accident last monday. It seems the train was travelling at 80mph instead of 30mph. Here is a link: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-42408624
