Trip report
Its generally a common scenario when the same rake comes for up and down journey when a train doesnt have RSA. But it becomes a coincidence when the same coach is allocated. And the berth adjacent to one which was undertaken in the up journey
Anyway, on 30th November was the return journey by the 12785 Bangalore Express. Since this train doesnt have RSA, I expected the same rake and coach. Tickets booked 2 months in advance also confirmed same coach.
When

I landed at Kacheguda station back on the 30th at 1830 hrs, the 1st thing that struck my mind was my 1st journey in this station in the 1995-96. Pestered and cajoled my father that we board the train at KCG rather than from SC, as the train had recently been extended to Kacheguda. Father agreed immediately but mom required bit more cajoling. Who will want to board a train 1/2 an hour earlier when SC was much closer and had a departure 30 mins later.
Kacheguda was a much changed station now. Display board proudly stated that 12785 is on platform 4. in 1996, only Pf-1 was the available Broad gauge platform and Kacheguda was literally empty and so was the train. It was a low level platform requiring complete climb, and on the other sides, the MG diesels gave us company. Of course, today no more MG, and the station boasts of having escalators to reach the platforms. We got down the stairs and walked to the front, the engine facing the opposite side of what it was in 1996.
Coach S8- seats 57 to 60.. Coach-99297!!.. bought a smile on the face- the same coach as on 27th
Adjusted luggage- Display boards showed the late running 12766 to arrive on Pf-2 at 1840.. 16603R was stationed with a pass on the PF-5 as i walked towards our loco. Suddenly the pass gave a horn and left in the direction to KRNT- Holy- the engine is not attached here but has been detached here. The loco followed the rake and I kept pace ahead of it. 57435 KCG-KRNT pass was over a hour late and left at 1845hrs.. The rake of Venkatadri was being shunted in parallel to the pass . KJM alcos were the lead for the night- time to experience but wait- whats 12766 going to do- make us trail??

I turn around back to my coach the announcers now announcing that Nizamabad pass will be leaving from PF-5. 17603 rake was in the pitline with the last coach indicating the slip to Vasco. The display board now changes to 12766 arrival as 1900. Oh is it going to be closer.. In the meanwhile Venkatadri moves into Pf-3.
Announcement went for the MMTS to Falaknuma arriving at 1900 and behold!! He did come and leave at 1902.. Now next 10 kms he is the leader while we going to trail.. Again a starting delay. 12766 went off to 1915 arrival and we get clearance at 1910 and move out
Trailing a MMTS is never a fun and we are forced to keep low speeds as he exits each and every station. All MMTS stations are trotted by. At Dabirpura, Tungabhadra Express from Kurnool pull past us running not very late. We slow down the clearance points at Falaknuma, the palace glowing in the evening light, post the Foreign delegates visit
We move past Budvel where a DMU sleeps on the adjacent track and arrive at Umdanagar where we are sandwiched between a DMU and the late running pass to Krunool which has been halted for our overtake. We are again given a danger before shadnagar, slowly turning to amber, as we trot pass the waiting 57488 Mizrapalli passenger. We have a few anxious moments seeing the lack of speed exhibited. Chances of a very delayed arrival again to SBC, if the train is going at this rate
After Shadnagar, the alcos let losse the things. They know they have lost their time and they have to make up for it completely atleast to 50%. The race starts, as we move past the Distinction marks.. 85-86-88-again a slip to 85 maintaining 88, moving till 90, we move ahead. A non stop run and 88 kms of our journey, we arrive at Jadcherla, at 2035 hrs, already losing 20 mins of our schedule
Its quite a surprise seeing the allocation of stops for this train- A non stop run for 1st 88 kms, and next stop at 19 kms.. followed by a 75 kms and 55 kms run to Gadwal and Kurnool.. And the time for the 75 kms is a mere 58 mins.. Any make up possible only when the territorries change
anyway, we arrive MBNR at 2055 hrs and again, we are made to wait for a longer than schedule, thanks to the late running 57326 Guntur Kacheguda pass, arriving behind a GTL WDM-3A. We then proceed and as usual, the dread starts of putting up the berths. one LB taken up by mom, we 3 settle on our bay, having privledge of taking the berths at our requisite.
It was a dashing run, but the movement of RPF increased as we enter into the eastern ghats forest region of Andhra. Any slowdown from train is met with flashlights from inside the train, and exchange of signals also met with exchange of these lights with the RPf on the platform. The moonlit night, barely days before full moon, I switched off the lights to give a better look at the scenery. The chugging of the alcos from the distance of 8 coaches, along with occassional sneezes from the locos was clearly heard thanks to low noise. At 2155, we slow down to respect the SR as we cross the long , but partly filled bridge over the River Krishna. A long crossing later, we pull into the station of Gadwal, discharging the huge crowd onto the platform from Hyderabad. RPF torch exchanged, time ticked to 2203, as our train pulled out from the station. Dad signalled to me that time is up and I put up the berths, hoping for the best, now that our delay is extended to 35 mins
A quite long sleep.. Long long long enough till I woke up at 0520 to find us leaving some station. Some passenger in other bay remarked "chikballapur" while my mind said they have read the end words only and its likely to be Doddaballapura. Tossing and turning and 35 mins later, we slow down to enter YNK at 0555. The Oche cyclone effect is felt as I open the door, a cold freezing breeze brushes against my face. The City seems to have had its share from cyclone and the roads were remarkably wet
Now comes the major issue for 12785.. The Channasandra-Baiyappanhalli bottleneck. The time was 0615 as we neared Channasandra, and it was also the time for 12028 to Chennai to get full preference. As we wait for signal, my mind runs through couple of thoughts.. At the 4 junction of BYPL, Hosur line has a line of trains, the 16235, chased by 16528 in a short gap and 12677 in opposite.. The Chennai line has seen the shatabdi go out and Lalbagh following it shortly.. The opposite from Chennai line having the Tirupati Express (16220), Howrah Yeshvantapur, Island following each other.. And we on the Dharmavaram line at this point are a solo... Though we have a much higher bunch, 22692 Primo supremo takes right at YNK to reach via YPR to SBC, followed by the 22133 from Solapur going only till YPR and even 16571 going only till YPR. Hence, technically at this signal, theres no one behind us. Time keeps ticking.. 10-15-20 well it only knows to tick.. Many passengers losing patience, have kept getting down one after the other and moving out to the Outer ring road, as buses on route 500 fly about to their destinations all around outside the station. Enquired dad, but he was against the deboarding.. We waited
At last, at 6:50AM, the clearance is given. We start pulling out.. Cleared the points and entered into BYPL, as the WAP7 hauled 12608 Lalbagh trots past us, accelerating seeing the green ahead.. We have a small halt at BNCE, and move into BNC at 0710, late by close to an hour, where we deboard. Announcement went on for the departure of 56503 to BZA from Pf-3 of BNC, while display boards showed that 16231 was over 2 hours late expected at 07:30, while 16525 Island was 5 hrs late expected at 1215 thanks to the Oche effect at CAPE.. Bidding bye, we exit the station
