Price difference doesn't have a major role. Run Intercity in MAO passenger timings. We could see the difference then. MAO passenger gets a lot of pax from West Coast. A lot uses West Coast + Mao passenger to go to Goa and Kollur. Or Run Intercity after MAS MAQ SF arrives MAQ. That will make a lot of difference in occupancy.
Ya right, they even identified the place for divisional building construction, but after that change of govt, no clue what happened later. Even Wadi-Gdg line was sanctioned same time
The cost of a General ticket is double in the Inter City. I dont think the Intercity can ever replace the passenger train as the latter is very popular with the small intermediate stations where the intercity does not stop. Also it is the oldest train on the KR network and has been religiously following the timings for some 20 odd years. In my view, the older the train, the more difficult it is to make changes
Your other idea of reversing the timings to make it depart from Mao in the morning and maq after the Superfast arrival from mas, is a good idea. However, there is also a DEMU which leaves MAQ at 3pm which I think is not...

It should run till Vasco. No direct connectivity between MAQ - VSG. Zonal Differences hence gets Neglected.
