Yes, they can be. Patna Rajdhani used to run with a spare rake made of SG AC coaches sometimes during Fog season. But it's not preferred due to some reasons.
1. EOG is more reliable as the power supply is continuous. SG coaches will have a problem if the train is stationary or moving slowly for long duration.
2. Maintenance will be a complete headache as all coaches' battery systems have to be checked after each run. And it's much more tedious than a non-AC rake as the A/C and the related systems...
