It was nothing less than a disaster to one of the best trains of IR half a decade ago when #001 was ruined by LAR and DHO. Whatever was left of it was finished off by HBJ. Post it, only one train commanded out-of-the-league priority and that is pretty much destroyed now.

I think it would be too primitive to judge a halt at a place like Gwalior without actually seeing how it performs, I'm just waiting to see that only. I agree with your other points though.
Regarding slack I'm not sure that I agree with your point as having travelled 17 times I have seen that normally it doesn't get late but when it does it covers it between Itarsi and Bhopal (please read my full statement I made earlier, I have edited it), there's bound to be some slack between Itarsi and Bhopal.
