Time and again in the recent past, the Supreme Court has expressed its displeasure at RAIL ROKO agitations. And yet:
1)BHUBANESWAR: Train passengers had a harrowing time after a blockade at Nirakarpur led to detention of major trains for about four hours on Saturday.Death of a youth, following a group clash, led to the protest by hundreds of locals who blocked movement of trains at Nirakarpur, near Khurda. The blockade which started at 11.30 am continued well past 3 pm. As a result, major trains had to be detained. Konark Express was delayed by about two hours while a passenger train was cancelled. 2) Members of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) staged a rail roko here on Friday condemning the attack on Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday at New Delhi.They blocked the Tiruchi-Mayiladuthurai passenger at the Thanjavur railway station. They demanded stern action against Harvinder Singh who attacked Mr.Pawar and demanded foolproof security for Minister. 3) Protesters blocked the Karwar-Yeshwantpur train at Karki Railway Station in Honnavar taluk on Friday demanding a stop for the train at Karki. The protesters stopped the train at the railway station for over one hour as part of “rail roko” to press for their demand.MLA Dinakar Shetty, members of Railway Action Committees of Honnavar and Taluk Kannada Abhimani Sangha, participated in the rail roko agitation.Extract assurance
The protesters squatted on the railway tracks and said they would not leave the place until the railway officials assured them that the Karwar-Yashwantpur train would be stopped at the Karki Railway Station.Mr. Shetty said the agitation would not be withdrawn until the railway officials accepted their demand. 4) Udupi, Nov 24: Barkur-Brahmavar Nagarika Samiti and members of 23 social welfare and voluntary organizations staged a rail roko at Barkur railway station, here on Thursday November 24 morning, urging the railway authorities to grant halt for Bangalore-Karwar train services at Barkur railway station.
