Mathrubhumi reports the much discussed matter in IRI. A pit line at PGT.
LAND AVAILABLE BUT NO PITLINE HENCE NO TRAINS.
As per the report.
Palakkad as a div HQ having 2 rly stations in the city but lacks in pit line.

div has to depend on other div to get the maintenance work done, this makes Railways hesitant to give new trains to pgt. Presently pgt is having pit at Srr and maq. Srr is having one pit with 14 coach capacity and maq is having 3 pits with 21, 23 and 26 coaches respectively.
Huge vacant land is available at PGTN which is good enough to build a 26 coach pitline. If this meterializes more trains can be introduced and 2 to 3 cbe terminating trains can be easily extended to pgt which will give pgt a good connectivity to cities like mas sbc etc.
This is also the reason for non restoration of pgt rmm train.
There was a proposal to build pit at PGTN earlier but didn't meterialized. Now all the situation favors pgtn but no such proposal was there to build pitline.

In a place like Kerala, where land aquisition is a major problem, at least the railway authorities should have some foresight and think ahead and make use of the space.
Tomorrow or in future in a worst case scenario, if MAQ is taken away by KR or SWR, then PGT will be left with nothing.
