Mahalakshmi actually used to run between Bangalore and Miraj ( The present day descendant of this train is the Chalukya express). It used to connect to the BG Mahalakshmi (KOP-CSTM) at Miraj to give a Bangalore-Bombay through connection. It used to depart from Bangalore in the morning, reaching Miraj the same night. Sometime after the Golgumbaz express was extended to SBC, Mahalakshmi was diverted to Mangalore as the Golgumbaz served as the day time connection between SBC-UBL.
