There were Dining Cars atteched earlier to long distance trains like GT,TN exp etc.Why did they discontinue them? Is it for commercial reasons? Even now IR can rethink about this issue.Atleast for Rajdhani,Duronto etc.

Actually, I think TN never had a Dining Car. It started in an era where DC were on the decline.
Another couple of factors, which I believe, was the reason for decline of Dining cars was (a) the reduced stoppage time in the main stations, those days there was time for people to get off and have hot ''railway station'' puri bhajjis and ' Omelette bread which were value for money. Less people were keen on railway food; (b) more people prefered packed food unlike today. As a result of these two factors the number of people wanting food on the train has increased so much, that only a PC and not a DC is practical
DC on TN.sorry for the slip up.Anyway the reasons cited by Vinay Kumar and sudhir are very valid.I just thought for a moment that DC could be for exclusive use of FC,IAC and IIAC at enhanced rates.Crowd i think will be less.Anyway what with hot food at stations,Packed food availability , PC I think is adequate.Just a passing thought only.

not only that, many short distance passengers occupied dining car seats, ordered snacks and stayed put. i have seen this while travelling in a Dining car attached train while the genuine long distance traveller had no place to sit. this is also an unnecesary menace.
Yes..Yes..Probably these issues might have forced IR to stop DC facility
